The wash-house of Fontfreyde

It existed formerly until the years 1970, a small building in the north of the coudert of Fontfreyde
which, during decades, wasused as a wash-house at living village of Fontfreyde before
to be demolished becaude fallen bus ruins fault of maintenance of it. The villagers used it to make their washing, of cloths in particular. They grouped with several to fill the 3 large pots
out of cast iron posed on brick hearths which they heated with wood which was often
stored on the coudert. The linen was then put to dry in the meadows bordering.
At that time, one used ash as a detergent what was more ecological and economic.
The arrival of the washing machine in the years 1960 should not have been foreign with the
abandonment progressive of the use of this room.
