It is the only literary work that recounts the life of inhabitants of a village

of Saint-Genès-Champanelle. The initiates there recognize the village of Beaune-le-Chaud

despite the glaring absence of toponymic and patronymic names.

LThe author has given an uncompromising description of his contemporaries

and probably wanted to put beyond the reach of their resentment

due to little description flattering to their village.
