CHAMPEAUX, village, commune of
Saint-Genès-Champanelle. Currently, this village
consists of two parts : Champeaux Haut and Champeaux Bas.
It is told that at the 19th century, whereas the men of the
village were at the fair of Saint Saturnin one May 1,
(at the time the village was only in Champeaux
Haut), a fire destroyed a large part of the houses
consecutively to the flasover of a frying pan...
Thereafter, a great part of the inhabitants moved
their houses in the bottom of the ribe in a hamlet which one called
Champeaux Bas in opposition to the old village which
named Champeaux Haut. Thereafter, the few remaining houses
in Champeaux Haut were gathered in a fields.
