Manson stone has been extracted from this quarry for nearly a century. During the first half of the 20th century, Italian immigrants made up the bulk of the quarry's workforce.
Later, after the 1960s, they were replaced by Portuguese workers.
Their children made up a large part of the students at Manson School for a long time, preventing its closure due to lack of staff.
